Bayern Munich get two major injury blow vs. Arsenal in the Champions League

Bayern Munich and Arsenal will square off in the Champions League quarterfinals in what is one of the most highly-anticipated ties of a loaded round of fixtures in European football’s premier competition.

Die Roten are the historic favorites of the competition but are in a difficult period, clearly out of the title race after 11 straight Bundesliga triumphs. Meanwhile, Arsenal are in the thick of the Premier League title battle, having barely fallen short in the end during the 2022/23 season.

So this Champions League quarterfinal pits a dominant, falling giant against a powerful club that is once again on the rise with a young, hungry squad.

Bayern Munich will need all hands on deck if they want to make it back to the semifinals after a couple of disappointing Champions League campaigns, and they should be getting two big boosts to help them out.

According to a report from Kicker, legendary goalkeeper Manuel Neuer and star right winger Leroy Sane are both expected to be in the lineup for Bayern on Tuesday night at the Emirates.

Bayern are coming off a dreadful 3-2 loss to Heidenheim, in which neither Neuer nor Sane played. There is a clear drop-off between backup Sven Ulreich and Neuer in goal, and Neuer is especially important to Die Roten in the Champions League. He tends to turn back the clock in the biggest games.

Neuer has been out since Mar. 20 with a muscular injury, while Sane’s unspecified ailment is more recent. Sane has been observed consistently improving in training with what he can do, and his explosive playmaking could prove to be a difference-maker against a star-studded Arsenal defense that has further improved with the integration of ex-Serie A star Jakub Kiwior.
